There was considerable excitement in communities across the region when we finally saw the loosening of COVID related restrictions earlier this year. This was particularly true as it related to recreation and social gathering points. The ability for many seniors to re-engage with friends in healthy, active and enjoyable lifestyle activities was a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively. This only amplified the importance of places like the one we are featuring here.
Dowler-Karn was excited to contribute to the new Ridgetown and Area Adult Activity Centre, known as “The Centre”. We also recently got to tour it and to see how it has come together for the community. It is known as a place for energy, creativity, and community, and that was readily apparent. This not-for-profit has operated under different names and in different locations since 1957 but now has a wonderful new home.
We received a wonderful tour of the facility. Shown flanking our Sales Manager Jason Cooper and Chatham Branch Manager Bob Boyd are Mary Hill, Executive Director Sharon Alliet, and Rob McKinlay.
With a mission to facilitate affordable accessible activities, programs, and services, and to enhance the quality of life of its members and community. The new centre has come online within budget too! It’s not often that this can be said in conjunction with a construction project of this magnitude.
When asked to provide an idea of some of offerings, Executive Director Sharon Alliet, our tour guide, shared a dynamic plan of activities, programs and services. “They are arranged under a number of categories: Arts and Crafts Activities, Board Games (Activities), Card Games (Activities), Education Programs, Fitness Activities, Health & Wellness Programs, Social Programs, Special Interest Programs, Sporting Activities, and Technology Programs. We even learned of an emerging sport…carpet bowling!
Congratulations to Sharon and the whole team. We are proud to support such a great asset for the community.
