We all know friends or family members who wait as long as possible before adjusting their thermostat at the change of seasons, be it in the spring with the AC unit or in the fall with their furnace. Well, that time is here. Fall is, of course, a good time to check your furnace air filters and check the vents in your house. If you have 2 stories, it’s not a bad idea to damper down the upstairs vents (don’t close them all the way) and open the ones in the lower levels (since heat rises). Then in the summer, do the opposite (especially if you have air conditioning).
Another good safety tip is to make sure you have a Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector in your home. Anything that burns – propane, natural gas, heating oil, gasoline, wood, etc. creates CO. CO is colourless and odourless, and it mixes with the oxygen in your home. It is called the “silent killer” because people don’t even realize they are being slowly poisoned by it. Common symptoms include fatigue, dizziness, confusion, headache, etc. So please, either get one or ensure the one you have is working.
A final ask from us as your energy supplier is the request to ensure that we have safe and efficient access to your tanks or delivery points. In some cases, that might mean clearing the path that we will be taking to your tank, in others it might mean trimming trees to ensure that we can safely navigate into your property. Out service and driver teams appreciate the support of our customers. It makes a big difference.
