Canada’s National Fire Prevention Week took place October 9th to the 15th 2022 with events and open houses throughout our communities. Dowler-Karn staff at our Windsor branch were invited to participate with their friends from the Tecumseh Fire Service. Important messaging was shared under the tag line, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.” Among the takeaways for visitors were the importance of making a home emergency plan, preparing a home fire escape plan, and creating a family emergency kit. Even knowing what to do when an alarm sounds is important. In terms of leading causes of fire, staying alert in the kitchen was profiled. Another theme was being cautious with electronic charging devices. All excellent reminders that could save lives.
Dowler-Karn also had a table onsite presenting the Stop, Think, Act behavioural based safety program. It is always impressive how kids are not only able to find and understand the hazards shown but also how to apply the stop, think, act process. What is the worst thing that could happen, do I have the right tools, training or knowledge, and then act in a safe manner.
