The 2010 International Plowing Match was awarded to Elgin County. The farms that were selected by the IPM Site Committee included the farm surrounding the Dowler-Karn head office in St Thomas. To help make this event successful for the community, Dowler-Karn became a Platinum Sponsor of the event.
The match was an overwhelming success and recorded as the second highest ever in generating revenue. $550,000 was generated to be distributed to charities throughout Elgin County.
Fall of 2010 was a much anticipated and very special time for family and staff of Dowler-Karn. The Jack & Joyce Karn Collection, also known as the Dowler–Karn Museum, was finally completed and opened to the public. More than 5000 memorabilia items collected over the past 60 years are on display. The museum is open to the public for viewing every Wednesday or by appointment.
In 2011, Dowler-Karn moved their Tillsonburg office from the existing Imperial Oil property to a new location in Tillsonburg’s industrial park. The new facility has a 24 hour keylock operation, a larger warehouse facility for lubricants, and a new office to better serve our customers.
2011 marked the formation of a new Propane Association, the Canadian Propane Association (CPA). Once operational, the two existing associations, the Ontario Propane Association (OPA) and the Propane Gas Association of Canada (PGAC), will cease operations. Dave Karn was part of the working group that helped to design the new association and was also elected to the inaugural board of directors.
Moving forward, Dowler-Karn is now planning expansion of their fuel business into the Sarnia area as well as plans to renovate the head office in St Thomas.
